NKOTB (x3): Phillyist, Shanghaiist and Parisist

Not one, not two, but three new sites from the folks over at Gothamist LLC introduced today….say hello to what we’ve affectionately been calling The Neapolitan Trio:

Phillyist
For starters, let us salute Phillyist for its bold choice of pink background. We know first-hand how much crap one can take for opting to use pink in a web color scheme. Now, as for the site’s content itself–Phillyist is edited by John Carroll, and it already lists an impressive 15 editorial contributors. We look forward to a heated Gothamist/Phillyist sibling rivalry as Team Phillyist learns to play together, control the tempo, and of course, play good defense.

Shanghaiist

We actually stumbled onto the Shanghaiist site last week, when it got the pre-launch blessing of a Boing Boing link, for its coverage of skateboarding legend Danny Way’s Great Wall of China. Shanghaiist is edited by Dan Washburn, who maintains the spiffy-lookin’ Shanghai Diaries. The site also features contributions by Jeff Jorve, David Marshall, Jr., and Shamus Sillar. Oh, and in case you’re wondering–yes, they do know that their site’s URL has three consecutive vowels, and yes, they are a little bothered by it too.

Parisist
While the new site announcement we received included all 3 of these sites, the introductory post on flagsip Gothamist only mentioned the above two. Add to that the fact that Parisist doesn’t yet have a skyline for its title/logo, and I think it may still be a little rougher/beta. Of course, it’s is all in French, and since none of us are remotely fluent, we’re not totally positive. But we’ll check back soon in anticipation of a skyline logo featuring the Eiffel Tower, and maybe even a post or two in English from editors Chryde and Dominique W.

For those of you scoring at home, these three bring the -ist site total to 13, all emulating the look and general tone of the original, Gothamist.

We spoke briefly via email with Gothamist’s Jake Dobkin, who assured us that more sites would be following, just as soon as the right teams are in place. While Jake wouldn’t pin down an exact target number of sites for the eventual -ist Empire, he did go as far as to tell us that there were probably about 20-25 sites that might fit their model.

As for future locations, Mr. Dobkin wouldn’t reveal where the next -ist will appear, short of expressing his own personal fondness for Tokyo. But we here at Blogebrity are putting our money on a Miamist, a Montrealist, and a Dublinist launching in the not-too-distant blogfuture (while hoping that a “Vegasist” is on its way too).

And with that, we’ve officially reached our “ist” quota for the day. Thanks for joining us. You stay classy, Blogosphere.
