Om did decide to go -- he offered to resign the second they sent the first email asking us what we thought they should do.

The 9 Rules guys had apparently pushed hard for him to join, and he was always a little detached about it.

Being a smaller site, we were the opposite -- I pushed to get into 9 Rules, so I was sad to have to leave.

I was a bit mystified by the departure of Malik too. I suppose it was more his choice than theirs...

If you visit the Gadgetopia site, they say it's because they were a part of FM Publishing (Federated Media). They had to choose, and they chose FM.

Why they would get rid of Om Malik is beyond me. He's got to be one of the bigger sites in the network. I imagine this also has something to do with the rule they can't be a part of any other content networks.

Blogebrity reports that 9rules has booted Gadgetopia and Om Malik's Gigaom: Gadgetopia and Om Malik are officially gone....still waiting for a full manifest of the departed from 9rules, who first delivered news of the 9rules weight loss plan just over...
