NKOTB: Valleywag
Say hello to Valleywag, the latest from Gawker Media. From the site’s own description:
Valleywag is a tech gossip rag. You people in Silicon Valley are far too busy changing the world to care about sex, greed and hypocrisy. But if you ever need a break, come visit us at Valleywag.
In other words, Valleywag promises to be Silicon Valley/the Bay Area’s Gawker or Defamer–replacing Conde Nast or Fox Broadcasting coverage with that of Google or Yahoo.
Visually speaking, the site is a departure from recent Gawker looks, which were all center-justified. Also, unlike the rest of the Gawker sites, it’s running ads down the left-side of the page (instead of the right), underneath a much smaller header graphic than any of the other GM sites feature. After spending a couple years married a standard 3-column layout, it’s nice to see some new style around the Gawkerverse.
Did we forget to mention that the site is edited by our old friend (and Blogebrity Editor Emeritus) Nick Douglas? After moving to San Francisco and spending the last few weeks prepping for this big debut, he’s hit the ground running today, with stories on Marissa Mayer and Larry Page’s secret romance, Larry Ellison’s his $25 million Woodside villa, and some “Who will be the next sell-out?” speculation (my money’s still on the Diggers).
For more on Valleywag, be sure to watch for our in-depth exclusive interview with Nick Douglas in the coming weeks.
UPDATE: Looking for photos from the Valleywag launch party? We got your launch party photos right here.
