Don’t know how I found this Wednesday morning, but Nick Denton’s Gawker Media appears to be starting a makeover of its properties, and porny- Fleshbot is the first to get it.
Suuuuuure Frank. We’ve detected your love of big nipples and Hungarian Perfect 10 models in the subtext of your MarketWatch coverage….you don’t have to be coy with us.
As you’ve probably noticed, Blogebrity’s been on sort of a on-again/off-again hiatus the past few weeks (more details on that soon to follow). Since we cover the world of the Internet famous, normally a week of light posting wouldn’t matter. But this week there’s actually been juicy, tabloid-worthy news coming out of the blogging world; here’s a couple of items we missed:
Pink Slip Overheard: Michael Malice (real name: Michael Krechmer) has been given the boot at Overheard in New York, the same week that his Harvey Pekar-drawn biography “Ego & Hubris” hit bookstores. But Malice fans fear not, he didn’t go far — you can find his latest blogging effort over at the practically-photocopied newyorkoverheard.com. If anyone has overheard any particular details of the feud between Krechmer and OiNY publisher Morgan Friedman (beyond what they’ve got at Gawker), don’t hesitate to send the transcripts our way.
Romance on the A-list: Trent of Pinkisthenewblog fame confirmed Wednesday that he and Jossip publisher David Hauslaib have been seeing a lot of each other. We’re quite sure that somewhere Perez Hilton is curled in the fetal position in a corner (eating Bon-Bons), fearful of the ramifications that this ubergossip union may hold. It’s only a matter of time before he responds by posting their addresses.
More soon to follow, along with an explanation of what’s been distracting us from our normal posting duties; trust us, it’ll be well worth the short-term absence of 1-3 daily posts.
And finally, don’t know how we missed this last week, but apparently the Banker from NBC’s Deal or No Deal is blogging. Howie Mandel was going to do it, but they couldn’t get him anywhere near a keyboard.
Novelist and BB blogger Cory Doctorow is joining USC’s Center on Public Diplomacy to teach a graduate course and deliver some guest lectures starting next fall.
All school pride aside, we here at Blogebrity hope this means a series of BoingBoing L.A. ubersummits are in the cards as well.
In the interest of full transparency for the fact that I blog whilst an employee and director at Warner Bros. Records, I have to disclose the following:
Today I ate my chicken salad with crunchy wontons, but tried a wasabi based Asian dressing that made my nose run.
I also had a diet coke.
I did this in lew of the fine Southern Soul Food that was in the artist lounge for the R&B artist Jaheim. For this I apologize to the urban A&R department.
American corporations take note — we need more of this sort of candor in our corporate blogs.
File this one under ‘where are they know?’ — it’s Beebo!’s Metalog Ratings of the Most Linked Weblogs, circa 2000. Here’s a taste (The Top 5 — complete with total links recorded):
As you can see — some like Kottke and Slashdot have defended their turf admirably against the millions of newcomers. Others like Jorn Barger’s Robot Wisdom and Memepool have long since been lost amidst a salty sea of BoingBoings and Gawkers.
