The Over/Under — Gawker’s TODO As The New Flavorpill/Daily Candy

gawkers-todo.jpgGo ahead and set this one at…

Three (3) months before Gawker deploys its TODO into a Daily Candy/Flavorpill ripoff mashup.

They’ve already got the shiny graphic and the content stream needing more readers/ad inventory. They’re at least halfway there. And didn’t you hear — daily email newsletters are all the rage right now.

(Those of you looking for serious action on this, we don’t doubt that it’s out there. BetUS is probably about to roll it out — it serves as a perfect companion piece to Putting Your Money Where Your Blog Is.)

The Fallout from Calacanis’s Unemployment

From The Zero Boss:

Please, someone give Jason Calacanis a job, or else he’s gonna do nothing but blog his press clippings all day. That’s only a degree of pathetic away from a supermodel blogging about what she threw up for dinner. (And yes, Jason, I’m going to take full advantage of the fact that you no longer sign my wife’s paycheck. Fasten your seat belt, kid.)

Ditto that. At this rate, he’s going to (a) make us violently ill and/or (b) run out of press clippings before Thanksgiving.

Jason Calacanis has confirmed the report from Techcrunch yesterday — he will be exiting AOL. Denton predicts Jason’s next stop will be a new podcasting or wiki venture, judging by Calacanis’s own blogtalk.

Meanwhile back at AOL, some people aren’t too sad to see Jason go.

Amanda’s Big Announcement

Congrats to Ms. Congdon on her new deals with ABC and HBO.

Everyone knew something was coming (you don’t usually sign with big talent agencies and then NOT sign deals), but who thought HBO would be in the mix? Does this mean Amanda’s got some R-rated plans in the near future?

Meanwhile back at Rocketboom, they recently notched their 10 trillionth viewer….or something like that.

Just In Time For Midterms, Wonkette Redesigns

wonkette-redesign.jpg

Bye-bye color and manic typewriter title treatment, hello parchment/newsprint look, with Miss Wonk stuck in the corner and italicized serif titleage. Featuring the new stretch-to-fit layout like all the other Gawker properties (except Deadspin and Consumerist).
